Getting started with the Netlio CMS

by Sam Thompson, Developer

1. Signing up to the Netlio CMS

The Netlio CMS is a content management system that allows you to easily update, create and delete your website's content. To begin using the Netlio CMS, you'll receive an invitation email from Netlio with a sign-up link. Clicking this link will enable you to create a secure password to access the CMS. Once you've set your password, you can log in using the email address in which you received the invitation, and the new password you have just created.

2. Getting started

Upon logging in to the Netlio CMS, you'll find a sidebar on the left-hand side, listing the various pages of your website. Under each page, you'll see links to different content types present on that page. Clicking on a link will take you to the specific content type, allowing you to make updates.

Most pages will have a single content type listed under them, usually labelled as Main Content, this will contain the majority of the page's content. However, content which is duplicable, such as blog posts, reviews and books, will appear in their own content type separate from the Main Content.

3. Updating your website's content

To update specific content on your website, navigate to the corresponding page within the Netlio CMS. Locate the page's title on the sidebar that matches the content you wish to modify on your website. Unless it is duplicable content, you'll typically find it within the Main Content content type.

Upon clicking the relevant content type link, you'll be directed to a new page. For non-duplicable content, this page will display a form (for duplicable content, please refer to the next section). Each field in the form represents a different piece of content from your website. You can then make the necessary changes to the content and save them by clicking the Save changes button at the bottom of the form.

4. Updating duplicable content

If the content type you clicked on is duplicable, such as blog posts, reviews, or books, you'll be taken to a page featuring a table with existing content. You can edit or delete the existing duplicable content using the corresponding buttons in the table. To add new duplicable content (like a new blog post, review, or book), click the New button on the top right of the page. You can now fill out the form with the relevant content, similary to how you would in the previous section.

5. Publishing your content

After making changes in the Netlio CMS, you may notice that they aren't reflected on your live website. This is because you need to publish the changes first. It's essential to ensure you've completed all desired changes before publishing.

Note: You don't need to publish changes after each modification but can wait until all desired changes are made to publish them collectively.

To publish your changes, navigate to the Home page of the Netlio CMS. If your website has unpublished changes, a blue box labeled Your website has unpublished changes will appear, along with a button to 'Publish changes to website'. Please note that this box will only appear if there are unpublished changes. If you don't see it but have previously made changes, you may have forgotten to click the Save changes button.

Once you have clicked the Publish changes to website button, it will then take around 2 minutes for the changes to be reflected on your website.
